Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka Win Australian Open Titles

Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka Win Australian Open Titles Melbourne-- Last month at the Australian Open in Melbourne, the 4th seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia took his 22nd singles grand slam title while the 5th seeded Aryna Sabalenka scored her first grand slam singles title.

The 35 year old Djokovic defeated the 24 year old 3rd seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-3, 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-5) in two hours and 56 minutes to also regain the top ranking on the Monday after the tournament.

The 35 year old Djokovic defeated the 24 year old 3rd seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in two hours and 56 minutes to also regain the top ranking on the Monday after the tournament.

2, Tsitsipas doublefaulted at 30-40 to lose serve in the only break of serve of the set.

In set two, Tsitsipas held a set point with Djokovic serving at 5-4 30-40.

However Djokovic struck an inside out down the line for ehand winner to reach deuce before reaching a tiebreaker.

In the tiebreaker, Tsitsipas struck several groundstroke errors to trail 1-4.

Djokovic then doublefaulted and committed two groundstroke errors to level the score at 4 all.

However Tsitsipas then struck three crosscourt groundstroke errors to drop the tiebreaker 7-4.

Tsitsipas broke serve to start set three before Djokovic broke back in the following game.

In the final set tiebreaker, Tsitsipas struck four groundstroke errors while Djokovic hit a down the line forehand return winner to lead 5-0.

Djokovic two backhands in the following two points to reach 5-2.

Then in the longest rally of the match, a 26 shot rally, Djokovic netted a down the line backhand volley to reach 5-3.

Djokovic struck a down the line forehand winner to reach matchpoint.

Tsitsipas struck a crosscourt forehand long to end the match.

In the women's final, after splitting the first two sets, the Wimbledon champion and 22nd seeded 23 year old Elena Rybakina served down breakpoint at three games all.

The 24 year old Sabalenka struck an overhead winner to break serve and lead 4-3.

Then serving at 40-30, Sabalenka hit a 108 miles per hour ace out wide to hold serve and lead 5-3.

Rybakina held serve to reach 5-4.

Serving for the match, Sabalenka struck an ace down the tee to reach matchpoint before laboring through a four deuce service game.

Sabalenka struck a down the line forehand winner to reach her fourth matchpoint.

Rybakina sent a down the line forehand long to end the match after two hours and 28 minutes of play 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

For Sabalenka, it was her first grand slam title after hitting 51 winners including 17 aces for the day.
