Portland--(lawntennismag.com) This weekend, November 30th through December 2nd at Portland, Oregon, in the finals of the
Davis Cup, the United States takes on Russia at the Memorial Coliseum indoors on hardcourts.
"It's pretty tough because we play in America," Davydenko said. "We know we have less chance to win."
Selected to play for the USA are Andy Roddick, James Blake, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
Nikolay Davydenko, Dmitry Tursunov,
Mikhail Youzhny and Igor Andreev make up the Russian team. The Russians enter the weekend as the defending champions having won
their second Davis Cup title last year.
"It's pretty tough because we play in America," Davydenko said. "We know we have less chance to win."
In Davis Cup play, the United States has won 31 titles. The last title for the Americans came in 1995 when Russia was ousted by the
Americans in Moscow on clay. Head to head the USA leads Russia 2-1 in all time Davis Cup competition.
The team format will consist of a best of five match schedule with a Saturday doubles match sandwiched between two singles matches each
on Friday and Sunday. The first team to record three match wins will claim the Davis Cup.
"We're feeling confident but getting that confidence to translate to the court and getting a win is a tall task, especially when we lost to them
last year," American Andy Roddick said. "But I like our team. We have been dreaming for a while of having a home final and I think we're all just
really excited about the opportunity. And we have the best doubles team in the world in our corner."
