Rafael Nadal Wins Fifth French Open Title

PARIS--Sunday in the French Open final, Rafael Nadal of Spain crushed Robin Soderling of Sweden 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to win his fifth Paris singles title in six attempts.
Cheered on by the Queen of Spain, Nadal struck first to break Soderling’s serve to reach 3-2 in set one before closing out the one sided match.

Nadal this year equaled his 2008 feat of winning the French Open title without dropping a set. In fact this year in twenty-one sets, Nadal never faced a setpoint.
The Swede, who had upset the world number one Roger Federer of Switzerland in an earlier round, turned in a flat and not as effective performance Sunday as he struggled with both his forehand and his serve.
The Paris championship win also for Nadal meant a return to the ATP Tour world number one ranking.
