Haas Did Not Face Breakpoint All Week
MEMPHIS--(lawntennismag.com) At the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and Cellular South Cup Sunday, Tommy Haas of Germany won
his third Memphis singles title defeating Andy Roddick of the USA 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and one minute.
Haas took an early 3-0 lead before Roddick held serve for 3-1. Twenty-seven minutes into the match, Haas took set one 6-3 after Roddick
netted a return of serve. In set two Haas went ahead 5-1 before hitting an ace out wide to end the match. Afterwards Roddick admitted his
errors contributed to his loss.
"I shot myself in the foot by playing sloppy early," Roddick said. "Then he just got the momentum and went with it."
It was the first time ever for Haas to successfully defend a singles title and was also his eleventh career singles title. "This is one of the
tournaments where I feel like I play some of my best tennis all the time. Winning here three times is obviously great," Haas said. "In some
ways I was feeling great the whole week. Playing against Mardy Fish yesterday gave me obviously some confidence. Against Andy you never
know how it's going to go. He can either blow you off the court, or you can be in the match depending on how he serves."
Today's match capped an incredible week for Haas where he never faced a breakpoint in his 47 service games at the tournament. Haas also
only lost seven points today on his serve. All of Haas' wins this week were over Americans: Vince Spadea, Amer Delic, Sam Querry,
Mardy Fish and Andy
Roddick. The next tournament for Tommy Haas is Dubai which begins Monday.
