Paula Badosa Turns Up The Heat In The Desert

Taylor Fritz Upsets Alexander Zverev In Indian Wells Quarterfinal Thriller Indian Wells-- Earlier this month at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, the 21st seeded Paula Badosa of Spain ripped through the draw before upsetting the former champion and 27th seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the final 7-6(7-5), 2-6, 7-6(7-2).

Badosa defeated both the upcoming American star and 15th seeded Coco Gauff as well as the former Wimbledon champion and 10th seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany in straight sets en route to the final.

In the first set tiebreaker, Badosa led 5-3 after hitting a crosscourt forehand winner.

The 23 year old Badosa then struck a crosscourt forehand winner on match point, her 44th winner of the day before falling to the court in celebration after three hours and four minutes of play.

In her best tour performances, Badosa this year reached the quarterfinals at both the Summer Olympics as well as Roland Garros.
