Teenager Carlos Alcaraz Claims Year End Top Ranking

Teenager Carlos Alcaraz Claims Year End Top Ranking Torino-- Teenager Carlos Alcarez of Spain is set to end the year ranked number one after first claiming the top ranking September 12th after winning his first grand slam title at the US Open.

In his first years on the professional tennis tour, Alcaraz competed at the challenger and ITF lower levels 2018 through 2020.

Last year in 2021 Alcaraz nicknamed early in his career "the next Nadal" won professional tour level tournaments at Umag, Croatia and Milan, Italy while reaching the US Open quarterfinals.

This year the 19 year old Alcaraz went 57-13 while winning five tournaments and $7.6 million while becoming the youngest ever year end number one ranked male tennis player.

At the US Open, Alcaraz upset the 29th ranked Cameron Norrie of Great Britain as well as the third ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece before falling to the 15th ranked Felix-Auger Aliassime of Canada.

The Australian Open and Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal of Spain could have regained the world number one ranking this fall.

However he lost four matches in a row to fall out of contention and finish the year at number two.

Alcaraz took titles in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona, Madrid as well as at the US Open.

Alcaraz is the youngest ever winner in Rio de Janeiro, Miami and Madrid.

In May on the clay at Madrid, Alcaraz upset the then fourth ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain in the quarterfinals before also defeating the then top ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the semifinals and the then 3rd ranked Alexander Zverev in the final.

In the final of the US Open, Alcaraz defeated the third ranked Casper Ruud of Norway 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.

And despite being worth millions of dollars, Alcaraz is said to not own any home or property.

Instead during the week Azlcaraz lives at a tennis academy and spends weekends with his family in Spain.
