Novak Djokovic In Action At Tel Aviv Thursday Night Tel Aviv-- At the Tel Aviv Watergen Open, the former world number one and seven time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia is set to make his singles debut at Tel Aviv, Israel Thursday night versus the unseeded Pablo Andujar of Spain.

Djokovic has won Wimbledon the last four years it was played but struggled to maintain his top ranking before falling to his current ranking of seven.

In January Djokovic missed several tournaments due to his lack of a Covid 19 vaccine before conceding the top ranking the following month to Daniil Medvedev.

In a results turnaround from previous years, Djokovic has won only two tournaments; Wimbledon and Rome so far this year.

refused to allow Russian and Belarussian tennis players to compete this year due to those countries' participation in the war in Ukraine, the professional tennis tours retaliated by not awarding any rankings point to the Wimbledon competitors which meant Djokovic lost 2,000 rankings points as the winner.

More bad luck and lost rankings points for Djokovic happened earlier this month at the US Open as Djokovic was not permitted to enter the USA thus not permitted to compete in the US Open due to his Covid 19 vaccine status.

Djokovic had already missed major tournaments in the spring in the USA at Indian Wells, California and Miami, Florida.

In a results turnaround from previous years, Djokovic has won only two tournaments; Wimbledon and Rome so far this year.

The 35 year old Djokovic first reached tennis' top world ranking in 2011 after that year winning ten tournaments including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Last year Djokovic won the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon before losing in the final of the US open to Medvedev to fall only one match short of one of tennis' biggest achievements, the Grand Slam (winning all four majors in one calendar year; last done in 1988 by Steffi Graf of Germany.)

The 21 times grand slam winner Djokovic is considered as one of the greatest tennis players ever.

Head to head Djokovic leads the 115th ranked Andujar 2-0 after winning the duo's last match ten years ago in 2012 at Indian Wells 6-0, 6-7(5-7), 6-2.

Andujar reached his highest ranking of 32 in 2015. The Spaniard reached the fourth round at the 2019 US Open in his best ever grand slam result.
