Roger Federer Falls In Doubles At Laver Cup In Final Career Match London-- Friday in round robin doubles action in London, England at the Laver Cup, the eight time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer of Switzerland and the two time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal of Spain lost to the Americans Jack Sock and Frances Tifaoe 4-6, 7-6(7-2), 11-9 after two hours and 13 minutes of play in what was Federer's final career match.

Federer struggled with knee injuries in recent years and bypassed singles play this week to compete in doubles only.

The 41 year old Federer won 20 total singles grand slam titles with his final grand slam title coming at the 2018 Australian Open in Melbourne.

Federer had his best season on the professional tennis tour in 2006 when he went 92-5 winning 12 singles titles including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Federer shocked the tennis world by announcing his retirement from tennis September 15th pending his final professional tennis tournament at the Laver Cup.

In 2021 Federer played only five professional tennis tournaments with his last match a Wimbledon quarterfinal 6-3, 7-6(7-4), 6-0 loss to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.

Federer had his best season on the professional tennis tour in 2006 when he went 92-5 winning 12 singles titles including the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

The Swiss would have won the Grand Slam; all four majors in one year had it not been for a final round loss at Roland Garros to Nadal that year.

After Friday's doubles match, Federer in tears waved goodbye to the crowd before receiving a standing ovation.

Federer is thought to be one of the greatest tennis players ever and perhaps the greatest ever at the net.

"It's been a wonderful day. I'm happy, not sad," Federer said. "It feels great to be here. I'm happy I made it through."

"It's been the perfect journey. I'd do it all again."
