The 23 year old world number one Sinner could only meet the 21 year old world number three Alcaraz in the final round match.
All four grand slam tournaments this year were won between the two players.
Head to head Alcaraz leads Sinner 5-4 after winning both of the duo's meetings this year.

In the women's tournament, the fourth seeded 20 year old Gauff could meet the unseeded 26 year old Osaka in the fourth round with the winner possibly meeting the second seeded 30 year old Jessica Pegula of the USA in the semifinals.
Osaka currently ranked 73 following the birth of her daughter is tied with the sixth ranked Guaff head to head 2-2.
Guaff won the pair's last meeting in 2022 at San Jose 6-4, 6-4.
The player emerging from the bottom half of the women's draw could face the 26 year old Sabalenka in the final round.

Sabalenka leads Pegula head to head 6-2 with Sabalenka winning the pair's last meeting earlier this month in the final of the US Open 7-5, 7-5.
