Novak Djokovic Wins Roland Garros To Keep Golden Grand Slam Dream Alive Paris-- Sunday in the championship match at Roland Garros in Paris, the top seeded Novak Djokovic of Serbia rebounded from a two set deficit to defeat the 5th seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

The 22 year old Tsitsipas took set one with aggressive play including seven aces as well as several powerful down the line forehand winners.

Tsitsipas broke serve twice in set two before striking a down the tee ace on set point to lead by two sets.

No tennis player male or female has won the (calendar) Grand Slam or the Golden Grand Slam since Steffi Graf of Germany swept all five titles in 1988.

following more consistent play after which Tsitsipas took a medical time out for a lower back injury.

More consistent play from Djokovic in set four including a backhand down the line winner on set point leveled the match at two sets all.

In the final set at one game all, Djokovic broke serve after Tsitsipas struck a crosscourt backhand long on breakpoint in what would be the lone break of the set.

Improved play from Djokovic combined with several errors from Tsitsipas resulted in a 5-3 Djokovic lead.

Tsitsipas then head serve to reach 5-4.

However, serving for the match at deuce, Djokovic struck a down the line forehand winner to reach match point.

The 34 year old Djokovic finished the match by striking a crosscourt swinging forehand volley winner to claim his second career Roland Garros title and 19th career grand slam singles title.

The victory also keeps Djokovic's Grand Slam dreams alive.

Djokovic, who in January won the Australian Open; has an opportunity albeit it a very difficult one, to sweep all four singles grand slam titles (only Wimbledon and the US Open remain this year) plus gold at the Olympics this summer to win the rare Golden Grand Slam.

No tennis player male or female has won the (calendar) Grand Slam or the Golden Grand Slam since Steffi Graf of Germany swept all five titles in 1988.

Since then, only Serena Williams of the USA (2002-2003) (2014-2015) and Djokovic (2015-2016) have come close, both winning non-calendar grand slams.

Wimbledon, the third leg of the grand slam, begins on Monday June 28th in London, England.
