Nadal hit several forehand winners including an inside out forehand down the line winner on
set point to close out the third set 6-4.
In the final set, Nadal held on to a fifteen minute game to hold serve to reach a one all game score. Nadal would go ahead 3-1
before Murray won three games in a row for 3-4. Both players held serve as Murray reached 5-4.
Aided by two forehands hitting the net then falling over, Murray drew to 30 all in Nadal's final service game. A netted backhand
slice from Nadal brought up the first matchpoint as Nadal leaned over with his fatigue from a long summer showing in a frown on
his face. Murray would hit a backhand down the line for a winner off a Nadal dropshot to end the 3 hour, 30 minutes match.
In his first major final Monday at 4:00pm CST USA, Murray takes on four time defending champion and second seeded Roger Federer
of Switzerland. After the US Open, Murray will reach a career high ranking of number four.
“I played well enough to beat the number one player in the world over two days, and I've beaten Roger in the past,” Murray said.
“I have the tennis to compete with those guys.”
