Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Defending Champion Novak Djokovic At Wimbledon Wimbledon--Sunday in the final of Wimbledon, the top seeded Carlos Alcaraz of Spain overcame a slow start to defeat the second seeded and four time defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia 1-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 after four hours and 42 minutes of play.

With celebrities including Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Andy Murray and the King of Spain watching from the stands, the 36 year old Djokovic raced to a one set lead.

However in the second set tiebreaker, Djokovic struck four backhand errors while the 20 year old Alcaraz struck four

The reigning US Open champion Alcaraz showcased a powerful forehand and serve; striking nine aces for the day.

winners including two crosscourt forehand winners, a 109 miles per hour ace out wide and a down the line backhand return winner on set point.

Djokovic also received a time violation warning midway through the tiebreaker.

Alcaraz broke serve to start set three following a netted Djokovic down the line backhand on breakpoint.

The Spaniard then took a 3-1 lead before Djokovic, who had won 45 matches in a row on Center Court, dropped serve following a 13 deuce 26 minutes long game to trail 1-4.

With Djokovic serving at gamepoint, Alcaraz had struck a crosscourt backhand passing shot winner before Djokovic committed two consecutive down the line forehand errors.

Alcaraz held serve quickly to lead 5-1 before striking two down the line forehand winners to lead 0-30 on Djokovic's serve.

Djokovic netted a forehand volley to face set point before Alcaraz struck a down the line backhand winner to break serve and lead two sets to one.

Serving in set four at two games all, Alcaraz struck three forehand errors to drop serve and trail 2-3.

Djokovic broke serve for a second time in set four with Alcaraz serving down 3-5.

Djokovic had begun the game by striking a down the line backhand winner before Alcaraz netted a down the line forehand to face set point.

Alcaraz double faulted to drop serve and to level the match at two sets all.

Serving at one game all in the final set, Djokovic netted a crosscourt forehand to trail 30-40.

Alcaraz then struck a down the line backhand passing shot winner to break serve and lead 2-1.

Frustrated with losing his service game, Djokovic smashed his tennis racket on the side of the net post which earned him a code violation from the chair umpire for racket abuse.

In his following service games, Alcaraz held serve with ease, striking several 123 miles per hour aces in the process to lead 5-3.

Djokovic held serve in the following game to reach 5-4.

Serving for the match, Alcaraz netted a down the line backhand dropshot to trail 0-15.

Alcaraz then struck a backhand dropshot, forehand lob winner combination to reach 15 all which he followed up with a down the line backhand volley winner to lead 30-15.

Djokovic struck an inside out crosscourt forehand winner to reach 30 all.

On the following point, Alcaraz hit a 130 miles per hour down the tee serve which Djokovic sent long in a backhand stab down the middle return to face match point.

Djokovic, a 23 time grand slam winner, netted a crosscourt forehand stab to end the match.

The six time Wimbledon winner Djokovic would finish with 32 winners and 40 unforced errors to Alcaraz's 66 winners and 45 unforced errors.
